Ephesians 4:23 and be renewed in the spirit of your mind.
This may be a short verse, but it is power packed. We have all heard that we need to renew our minds with God’s word, so we can know God’s thoughts about us, about life, etc. I did a word study, and here are some of the meanings of this verse.
- Renew – is to renovate, reform, renew, spiritually transformed, to take on a new mind.
- Spirit of your mind – the disposition or influence which fills and governs the soul.
- Mind – reason, a particular mode of thinking & judging, perceiving & understanding, the capacity for spiritual truth, the faculty of perceiving divine things, recognizing goodness and of hating evil.
When you renovate something, you plan out what you want to do. For us, what needs renovated and transformed in our attitudes and our thoughts? Do you need to know your forgiven? Do you need to know you are loved, accepted, healed? Start making plans to renovate the way you think and take on a new mind. Find scripture that provides truth in these areas and begin the process.
We need to remember when we renovate, you usually have some demolition time, meaning, it might get a little messy at first. What needs to go, to get torn up and thrown out? What lies need to get pulled up by the roots and what truth now goes in its place?
The Holy Spirit is in us to help us and to guide us into all truth. Invite Him in to help you in this lifelong renovation process of our minds. He is the best contractor, planner and designer you could ever want.
Romans 12:2 And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.
When our minds and attitudes begin to conform to God’s words (thoughts) it will be easier to recognize when He is speaking to our hearts, but if we don’t know how God thinks and works in our lives, it will be harder to know if it’s God speaking or just our own thoughts.
