Happy Monday, Friend!
Recently, my husband and I were talking with some friends about Psalm 1:3, and it stirred something in my heart about the importance of being planted in the Word of God. The Psalm begins by describing the blessed personāone who doesnāt seek counsel from those who donāt know God, nor walk in the ways of sin and this world. Instead, this person delights in the Word of the Lord and meditates on it day and night.
Psalm 1:1ā3 (NKJV)
āBlessed is the man
Who walks not in the counsel of the ungodly,
Nor stands in the path of sinners,
Nor sits in the seat of the scornful;
But his delight is in the law of the Lord,
And in His law he meditates day and night.
He shall be like a tree
Planted by the rivers of water,
That brings forth its fruit in its season,
Whose leaf also shall not wither;
And whatever he does shall prosper.ā
This beautiful image of a tree planted by rivers of water shows us what happens when our hearts stay rooted in Godās truth. Rivers are always movingāthey are alive, fresh, and flowing. When we keep our roots deep in Godās Word, our spiritual life remains vibrant and nourished, never stagnant or dry. Just as a tree draws life from the river, we draw life from Godās Word.
What an incredible promiseā āwhatever he does shall prosper.ā Thatās the opposite of withering! If something in your life feels as though itās fading or drying up, thatās the perfect time to return to the Word. Let your heart be replanted in the promises of God. His Word revives, strengthens, and causes fruit to grow again in every area of your life.
The prophet Ezekiel paints a similar picture:
Ezekiel 17:8 (NKJV)
āIt was planted in good soil by many waters, to bring forth branches, bear fruit, and become a majestic vine.ā
Here we see that good soil and living water are both essential for fruitfulness. When the soil of our hearts is soft, humble, and receptive to Godās Word, He can cause His truth to grow into something strong, fruitful, and even majestic. We are not meant to survive in dry soil but to flourish by many waters.
Finally, Paul reminds us in Colossians 1:5ā6 that the Word of the Gospel doesnāt just bring fruit to usāit brings fruit through us to others:
Colossians 1:5ā6 (NKJV)
āThe word of the truth of the gospel, which has come to you, as it has also in all the world, and is bringing forth fruit, as it is also among you since the day you heard and knew the grace of God in truth.ā
As you continue to plant the Word of God in your heart, you too will be like that tree planted by rivers of waterāstrong, nourished, and fruitful in every season. Your leaf will not wither, and whatever you do will prosper.
Remember today and always: You are Loved. You are Righteous. You are His. šæ
