Happy Monday, Friend!
Recently, my husband and I were talking with some friends about Psalm 1:3, and it stirred something in my heart about the importance of being planted in the Word of God. The Psalm begins by describing the blessed person—one who doesn’t seek counsel from those who don’t know God, nor walk in the ways of sin and this world. Instead, this person delights in the Word of the Lord and meditates on it day and night.
Psalm 1:1–3 (NKJV)
“Blessed is the man
Who walks not in the counsel of the ungodly,
Nor stands in the path of sinners,
Nor sits in the seat of the scornful;
But his delight is in the law of the Lord,
And in His law he meditates day and night.
He shall be like a tree
Planted by the rivers of water,
That brings forth its fruit in its season,
Whose leaf also shall not wither;
And whatever he does shall prosper.”
This beautiful image of a tree planted by rivers of water shows us what happens when our hearts stay rooted in God’s truth. Rivers are always moving—they are alive, fresh, and flowing. When we keep our roots deep in God’s Word, our spiritual life remains vibrant and nourished, never stagnant or dry. Just as a tree draws life from the river, we draw life from God’s Word.
What an incredible promise— “whatever he does shall prosper.” That’s the opposite of withering! If something in your life feels as though it’s fading or drying up, that’s the perfect time to return to the Word. Let your heart be replanted in the promises of God. His Word revives, strengthens, and causes fruit to grow again in every area of your life.
The prophet Ezekiel paints a similar picture:
Ezekiel 17:8 (NKJV)
“It was planted in good soil by many waters, to bring forth branches, bear fruit, and become a majestic vine.”
Here we see that good soil and living water are both essential for fruitfulness. When the soil of our hearts is soft, humble, and receptive to God’s Word, He can cause His truth to grow into something strong, fruitful, and even majestic. We are not meant to survive in dry soil but to flourish by many waters.
Finally, Paul reminds us in Colossians 1:5–6 that the Word of the Gospel doesn’t just bring fruit to us—it brings fruit through us to others:
Colossians 1:5–6 (NKJV)
“The word of the truth of the gospel, which has come to you, as it has also in all the world, and is bringing forth fruit, as it is also among you since the day you heard and knew the grace of God in truth.”
As you continue to plant the Word of God in your heart, you too will be like that tree planted by rivers of water—strong, nourished, and fruitful in every season. Your leaf will not wither, and whatever you do will prosper.
Remember today and always: You are Loved. You are Righteous. You are His. 🌿
