Good Monday Morning Friends!
Have you ever felt like you’re living in a place God promised you, yet still being harassed, discouraged, or weighed down by things that shouldn’t be there? That’s because promises require participation. God gives the land, but He calls us to dispossess what doesn’t belong. Many believers stop short – dwelling near the promise, but never fully possessing it. And what we tolerate, we end up living with. God never intended for us to cohabitate with the very things He gave us authority to drive out.
“You shall dispossess the inhabitants of the land and dwell in it, for I have given you the land to possess.”
— Numbers 33:53
Notice God didn’t say He would drive the enemy out for them—He said you shall dispossess. He gave the land, but they had to occupy it. If they didn’t drive out the inhabitants, God warned that those enemies would become “irritants in your eyes and thorns in your sides”—vexing and harmful in the most tender areas of life. What a picture He is giving us: spiritual issues that remain undealt with don’t just stay small—they grow into deep, personal pain.
“But if you do not drive out the inhabitants of the land from before you, then it shall be that those whom you let remain shall be irritants in your eyes and thorns in your sides…”
— Numbers 33:55
This isn’t about physical enemies anymore—we’re in a spiritual battle now. Under the New Covenant, we’re not using swords but spiritual armor. Jesus has already disarmed the enemy and triumphed over him (Colossians 2:15). But we’re called to enforce that victory, not allow defeated lies, thoughts, or habits to squat in our promised inheritance. You can’t conquer what you’re willing to tolerate.
“For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities… spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places.”
— Ephesians 6:12
So how do we “drive out” these enemies today? By standing in the finished work of Christ. We wear the armor of God. We use the sword of the Spirit—His Word. We walk in truth, righteousness, faith, peace, salvation, and persistent prayer. These aren’t just defensive; they are weapons of spiritual enforcement. They protect what’s yours and push out what never belonged.
- We must understand that Jesus has already conquered our enemy the devil. 1 John 3:8 Says “that for this purpose the Son of God was made manifest (or revealed) to destroy the works of the devil” NKJ
- “The reason the Son of God was revealed was to undo and destroy the works of the devil” TPT
- We are not conquering him or fighting to destroy him or his works because Jesus already did
- “Be strong in the Lord and in the power of His might. Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.”
— Ephesians 6:10-11
Jesus gave you power over the enemy. Authority is yours, but activation is on you. Stop letting the enemy harass your peace, your health, your mind, or your relationships. You’ve been circling the mountain long enough. It’s time to take possession of what’s already yours in Christ.
“See, I have set the land before you; go in and possess the land which the LORD swore to your fathers.”
— Deuteronomy 1:8
“Listen carefully: I have given you authority… over all the power of the enemy, and nothing will in any way harm you.”
— Luke 10:19 AMP
The enemy has been usurping authority over us for way too long, so let God’s Word and authority take possession of what Jesus paid for!
Remember, you are Loved, you are Righteous, and you are His!
Amen! Father I am choosing to stop circling the mountain and take possession of all that Jesus has already done! Thank you Colleen for this encouragement. Blessings to you
