You Are Quickened By The Spirit

Good Monday morning friends.  Today, we are going to look at several verses that will bless you and will renew your mind to the “Life” you and I already possess.  Let’s get a good foundation laid so we can build on this be strong in what we believe.  We are going to look at the word “quicken” or “quickened”.  

Ephesians 2:1 And you He made alive (quickened) who were dead in trespasses and sins.   

Ephesians 2:5 Even when we were dead in trespasses and sins, He made us alive (quickened) together with Christ, (by grace you have been saved).

Colossians 2:13 And you, being dead in your trespasses, He has made alive (quickened) together with Him, having forgiven you all trespasses.

All these verses tell us that we were dead in our spirits which means we were in darkness and needed to be quickened, or made alive, think about that.   We must realize that this quickening happened over two thousand years ago before we were ever thought of in this world, but we were thought of by Him, They all saw us, the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.  The plan of salvation was about to be introduced when Jesus came to this earth to be “The Man”, The last Adam to offer salvation to all of mankind. 

In the same way that our spirit is being made alive or quickened, so is our bodies affected by this quickening power. Let’s look at this next important verse. 

I Peter 3:18 For Christ also suffered once for sins, the Just for the unjust, that He might bring us to God, being put to death in the flesh but made alive, quickened by the Spirit.   This is how Jesus was raised from the dead, He was quickened by the Spirit!

Now, let’s look at Romans 8:11 – But if the Spirit of Him that raised Jesus from the dead shall also “quicken, give life” to your mortal bodies through His Spirit who dwells in you.

So, what does “quicken/quickened” mean?  Quicken, make alive, give life, caused to live, to arouse and invigorate, to restore to life, revitalize. 

The following are some original meanings of this word “quickened” from the Blue Letter Bible. 

• To produce alive, begat or bear living young.  To cause to live, make alive, give life
• by spiritual power to arouse and invigorate
• to restore to life
• to give increase of life: thus, of physical life
• of the spirit, quickening as respects the spirit, endued with new and greater powers of life
• metaph., of seeds quickened into life, i.e., germinating, springing up, growing

Can you see this with your spiritual eyes?  The Holy Spirit is telling us that in the same way that He raised up Jesus’ body from the dead, He is giving life to (restoring life to, arousing, invigorating, making alive, and revitalizing our mortal, physical bodies,) both in this life and when our bodies will be resurrected at the second return of Jesus.  Think on this for the next week.
