Wrong Thinking, Leads to Wrong Interpretation!

Good Monday morning friends.  If you have listened to me at all, you know that part of the life message God has given me is about our thinking and how it can change your life for good or for bad.  Whatever the image is in our minds/souls is what we’ll carry in our life and even our bodies.

“Wrong thinking, leads to wrong interpretation” (Proverbs 23:7 & 1 John4:17)

When we think wrongly, we will interpret things wrongly, no matter how right we think we are or how sincere we are, it will come out wrong if our minds are not renewed to the Word of God.

Interpretation has the meaning of “the action of explaining the meaning of something” or “a way of explaining or explanation”.  So, what does the bible say about our thinking and about our minds?

Romans 12:2 TPT – Stop imitating the ideals and opinions of the culture around you but be inwardly transformed by the Holy Spirit through a total reformation of how you think. This will empower you to discern God’s will as you live a beautiful life, satisfying and perfect in his eyes.

Over the course of my Christian Walk, I have fallen into several wrong thinking traps.  One of them was it’s only ‘my” faith that will receive anything from God or having faith in “my” faith.  That may sound good, but it’s not a biblical statement.  What it should be, is having faith in “the faith of the Son of God” (Galatians 2:20 KJV) that receives from Him.  If Jesus would not have completed everything at the cross, we would not have anything to receive.  When we “receive” something, it’s because it’s ready to be received, meaning, it is already done.  Jesus accomplished everything we would ever need when He became our substitute and was judged in our place on the cross.

When you gave gifts this past Christmas, you had the gift purchased and wrapped with the person’s name on it and ready to give it.  All that person had to do was take it from you and say thank you and then open it up.

1 Corinthians 2:12 AMP – Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the [Holy] Spirit who is from God, so that we might know the and understand the (wonderful) things freely given to us by God.

Proverbs 23:7 says, that as a man thinks in his heart, so is he.  Are you trying to make your faith move God?  Are you thinking that what you do, will get God to do something for you?  That is wrong thinking and wrongly interpreting who God is and what He is like.

1 John 4:17 on the other hand, says that as He Is, so are we!   Let’s dare to think that we are like Him.  Would we not be like our Father, the one who created us in His own image and His likeness?

What I have learned now over the years, is understanding the balance of “grace and faith”, not just one or the other, it’s the combination of both.  This is how we got saved.  Ephesians 2:8 AMP – For it is by grace [God’s remarkable compassion and favor drawing you to Christ] that you have been saved [actually delivered from judgment and given eternal life] through faith. And this [salvation] is not of yourselves [not through your own effort], but it is the [undeserved, gracious] gift of God.

Since Jesus has already provided everything you would ever need, just ask the Holy Spirit how do I cooperate with what has already been done for me.

  • Grace is what Jesus has already done at the cross.
  • Faith is receiving or walking in what He has already done.

Walking in the Grace of God by faith has allowed me to appropriate what God has already given me through the finished work of the cross.  It’s not how much you do, (your performance) how much you read, how much you confess the Word, or how much you pray, but how much you believe in what He has already accomplished.

If you are not receiving something today, ask the Holy Spirit how to cooperate with Christ’s finished work and how to take (appropriate) what “has been freely given to you”, because “as He is, so are you”!

Remember, you are Loved, you are Righteous, and you are His!

  3. The Father told me this morning to remember that my identity is in Christ. He is always telling me to take what belongs to me by faith, and of course, He reminds me that everything I need is found in His Word. I am so thankful that the Father never gets tired of telling me the same truth over and over again! The battlefield is the mind. Thank you Colleen for another great word!!

  4. “A combination of grace and faith.”
Holy Spirit has taught me the same thing over the years with a little different twist..to build muscle there must be resistance breaking down the muscle followed by rest and recovery.
    Thank you Colleen. God bless.

  5. I’m very sorry to be so wordy today. I can’t keep going without saying that your whole point about our thinking, is so true. It’s all about our thinking. Romans 12:2 just about the most important Bible verse. At least that’s what I think today😄
