Quickened By The Spirit|2

Happy Monday Morning to you! Before I begin this morning, I want to remind us all how loved we are and how much Jesus did for us 2,000 years ago out of that love for us. Whatever it is that you are going through – Don’t give up and don’t quit.

Last week we looked at how Jesus was quickened in the spirit and how does this apply to you and I. So, what does “quicken/quickened” mean?  Quicken, make alive, give life, caused to live, to arouse and invigorate, to restore to life, revitalize. 

Now, let’s look at Romans 8:11 – But if the Spirit of Him that raised Jesus from the dead shall also “quicken, give life” to your mortal bodies through His Spirit who dwells in you.

Wow, The Holy Spirit is telling us that in the same way that He raised up Jesus’ body from the dead, He is giving life to, restoring life to, arousing, invigorating, making alive, and revitalizing our mortal, physical bodies. 

Here’s what the BLB has as a the definition of “quicken”:

1. to cause to live, make alive, give life
   1. by spiritual power to arouse and invigorate
   1. to restore to life
   1. to give increase of life: thus, of physical life
   1. of the spirit, quickening as respects the spirit, endued with new and greater powers of life
2. metaph., of seeds quickened into life, i.e. germinating, springing up, growing

² For the law of the Spirit of life [which is] in Christ Jesus [the law of our new being] has freed me from the law of sin and of death.

Romans 8:2

If we take a look at Romans 8:2 just a few verses above this one. We find out that God gave us the “law of the spirit of life in Christ Jesus”. Why did He do this? Tomake us free from the law of sin an death. Whatever was under sin and death no longer has power over us, ONLY Life which Jesus paid for and rose again from the dead for. We are under a new law of the spirit of life IN Christ Jesus, so remember, whatever Jesus did to sin, sickness and death when he died and was raised from the dead, He did to everything that would come against us.

Father, I pray right now that the eyes of our understanding are enlightened and flooded with light so that we see all that you have already accomplished for us and as we depend upon you, help us walk in this wonderful “law of the spirit of life in Christ Jesus”!

Remember, you are Loved, you are Righteous, and you are His!
