The Where, How, and Keeping of Our Faith

Good Monday morning friends.

Where did faith come from, how did we get it, how do we keep it?  Many would say, well, that’s a loaded question; but not really.  The Word of God answers all these questions, and so let’s look into this today and be blessed.

Where did faith come from? – Faith comes from God, because He is a faith God.  So how did we get faith? I talked about this not too long ago in another teaching that God put His faith into His Word.  That statement amazes me every time I say it.

Mark 11:22 Have faith in God.  Jesus told us to do this.

How did we get it? – Romans 10:17 tells us that “faith” comes by hearing and hearing by the Word of God.  The first time we ever experienced God’s kind of faith was at the moment of salvation.  We heard someone tell us about Jesus and His love for us and that He died for our sins and wanted to give us the most amazing gift we could ever receive, and that’s salvation.

Faith that comes by “hearing” in this verse means a “rema” word, (that which is or has been uttered by the living voice, a thing spoken.) I love this one – (a declaration of one’s mind made in words).  Both of which has been spoken by God to us through the Bible, The Holy Spirit and through others.

How do we keep faith? – After we are born again, we have God’s supernatural faith in us.  Let’s look at a few scriptures on this.

Romans 12:3 (KJV) tells us that we have been given “the” measure of faith”, not a measure like some other translations say. The bible will interpret the bible to help us understand this better. God gives to us all the same “measure” of faith, not a big measure to some and just a spoonful to others.  That’s not how our Father does things.

 Galatians 2:16 & 20 (KJV)

16 knowing that a man is not justified by the works of the law, but by the faith of Jesus Christ, even we have believed in Jesus Christ, that we might be justified by the faith of Christ, and not by the works of the law: for by the works of the law shall no flesh be justified.

20 I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless, I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me.

These verses tell us that the faith we now use in our everyday life after we are born again is “by the faith of Jesus Christ” and “by the faith of the Son of God”.  Think about this.  As we study the Bible and hear God’s inward voice and as the Word is taught and preached, faith is already present with it.  We are not trying to get faith, it is already ours, it is the gift of God.

Ephesians 2:8 For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: salvation is a gift, but so is the faith to receive salvation.

Whatever is going on in your life today remember the faith of the Son of God is already present in you, you are not striving to get faith, you already have it.  This journey we are on is all about how to use the faith we’ve been given and how to cooperate with the laws of the kingdom to release this “like precious faith” as 2 Peter 1:1 says in order to receive the “exceedingly great and precious promises” 2 Peter 1:2-4 from God’s Word.

Remember, you are Loved, you are Righteous, and you are His!
